Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 1/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for Thursday night and Friday Fine over most of the state. Isolated showers along the Northern Tropical coast and peninsula. A few thundery showers in a band from the northwest to the southern interior, contracting to south coastal districts on Friday. Freshening SE winds along the east coast on Friday, otherwise moderate SE to NE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK A large high will develop over the Bight, then move very slowly east towards Bass Strait over the next few days. The high will build a firm ridge along the Queensland coast by Friday, which will strengthen even further late in the weekend as the high intensifies. Coastal areas can expect SE trade winds to gradually freshen with strong winds and moderate to rough seas developing through the latter half of the long weekend. The weather will be fine over most of the state for the next few days with near average temperatures. A few showers will continue along the north tropical coast in the SE trade winds. A cold low in the upper atmosphere is expected to move rapidly across SW Queensland today and reach southeast Queensland on Friday. This system could produce a few thundery showers as it moves across the state. The upper low is expected to weaken on Saturday, leaving a few showers along the exposed coast during the weekend in the strengthening onshore SE airstream. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
