Daily Midwest Livestock Summary

AMARILLO - Mar 19/10 - SNS -- Market conditions for cattle, hogs and

lambs in the major markets in the U.S. midwest are summarized in the latest daily report from the USDA.



Daily Livestock Summary

                                     CATTLE
Direct Trade:
   In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas,
Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; Thus far for today,
Trade was moderate on moderate to good demand in Nebraska and Colorado with live
sale trading 3.00 to 4.00 higher and dressed sales 7.00 to 8.00 higher.  Trading
in other areas including Kansas and the Western Cornbelt were slow while the
Texas Panhandle was inactive at this report deadline, there were not enough
sales in the other areas to establish an accurate market trend.  Steers: Live
basis; (all Grades: 6,820 head) 93.00-96.00, weighted average 95.54.  Dressed
basis; (all Grades: 13,908 head) 150.00-155.00, weighted average 153.49.
Heifers: Live basis; (all Grades: 6,409 head) 92.00-96.00, weighted average
95.66.  Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 9,053 head) 151.00-155.00, weighted average
153.49.
   For the week: Although no trade had occurred so far in the Texas Panhandle,
the other areas reported live sales 3.00-4.00 higher and dressed sales 5.00 to
8.00 higher for the week, but with only limited trading of live sales in Kansas.

   Slaughter Heifers: Choice 2-3: 1120-1320 lbs 88.00-94.25.

The average live weight of cattle slaughtered in the Texas Panhandle for the
week ending 03-13-2010 was 1214 lbs with 39 percent heifers compared to 1214 lbs
and 38 percent heifers the previous week and 1255 lbs and 35 percent heifers the
same week a year ago.

and gilts .01 higher with prices ranging from 59.25-70.27, weighted average
price 68.24.  Iowa-Minnesota 0.11 lower at 61.00-70.00, weighted average price
68.55.  Western Cornbelt 0.02 lower at 59.25-70.00, weighted average price
68.59.  Eastern Cornbelt 0.34 higher at 62.50-70.27, weighted average price
67.58.

   Live Basis (240-280 lbs): National direct barrows and gilts 0.19 lower at
49.60-55.00, weighted average 52.67.  Iowa-Minnesota 1.08 higher at 49.60-55.00,
weighted average 53.25.  Western Cornbelt 1.22 higher at 49.60-55.00, weighted
average 53.22.  Eastern Cornbelt 1.23 lower at 50.21-53.00, weighted average
