Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 16/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Saturday 20 March 2010.
Warning Summary at issue time

telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A high pressure system northeast of Victoria will slowly track eastwards across
the Tasman Sea later in the week. A weakening cold front will slide over
Tasmania today, with a slightly stronger front moving through southern Victoria
on Friday. Another high pressure system will move to the south of the Bight
during Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine apart from areas of smoke haze in the southeast and isolated showers over
the southwest this afternoon and evening. A warm day with moderate to locally
fresh northerly winds, however a milder southerly change extending eastwards
across southern Victoria during the day.
Fire Danger: Moderate to High.
Forecast for Thursday
Mainly fine. Isolated showers in the south extending eastwards but remaining
fine over the far north and east. Warm with light to moderate northwesterly
winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers, mainly in southern and mountain areas. Isolated thunderstorms
possible about the ranges. Warm at first with a moderate to fresh north to
northwesterly wind shifting milder west to southwesterly from the west during
the afternoon and evening.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers. Mild with a moderate west to southwesterly wind tending south
to southwesterly and freshening near the coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.
