Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 10/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
A gale and strong wind warning is current for waters between Cooktown and Point
Danger.
Flood warnings are current for most rivers and creeks over southern Queensland.
Refer to latest warnings for details.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Thursday and Friday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the northern and central areas of the
state, contracting to the western half on Friday. Scattered showers over the
east coast and ranges. Isolated afternoon showers about southeast inland parts,
extending throughout on Friday. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds, becoming strong
and gusty about the east coast and ranges.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Saturday.. A large, intense high will remain slow moving near Tasmania,
maintaining strong to gale force winds over the east coast and ranges south of
about Lockhart River. Scattered showers continuing over the exposed east coast,
with more isolated activity over the eastern interior, mostly on and east of the
ranges. Some moderate falls likely over the northeast tropical coast.
Instability eases and contracts into western and far northern parts of the state
as the ridge continues to build in the east, with showers and isolated
thunderstorms over parts of western districts and through Cape York Peninsula.
Sunday.. Gale force winds still expected around the central coast regions,
easing during the day with strong winds elsewhere south of Lockhart River.
Showers and thunderstorms contract to the far northwest and northern Peninsula.
Scattered showers about the coast in the north, more isolated in the south and
about the eastern interior.
Monday.. Strong winds continuing for most of the east coast, with scattered
showers in the north and isolated elsewhere near the coast and about the eastern
interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the far north.
In the longer term, the high remains slow moving in the Tasman Sea with a firm
ridge along the east coast. Fresh to strong winds along the east coast with
