Australia -- Victoria Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 8/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. for the period until midnight EDT Saturday 13 February 2010. Warning Summary at issue time Severe thunderstorm warning for the Northern Country, Northeast, Wimmera, North Central, East Gippsland, West and South Gippsland, Western, Central and Alpine forecast districts Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts. Weather Situation A slow-moving high pressure system is over the Tasman Sea. A weak low pressure trough over Victoria will remain slow-moving before deepening over western Victoria on Thursday and moving eastwards later on Thursday and early Friday. A high pressure ridge will lie to the south of Tasmania on Saturday while a low pressure trough will linger near northeastern Victoria. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Scattered showers and thunderstorms near the ranges with the chance of a thunderstorm elsewhere although fine near the coast. Light to moderate northeast to northerly winds and coastal seabreezes. Forecast for Wednesday Humid. Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing near the ranges with isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere although generally fine near the coast. Warm with light to moderate northeasterly wind and afternoon coastal seabreezes. Fire Danger: Low to moderate Forecast for Thursday Warm and humid. Isolated showers and thunderstorms becoming more widespread during the afternoon and evening. Moderate to locally fresh northwesterly winds shifting southerly over the southwest in the afternoon and central areas later. Afternoon seabreezes developing along the Gippsland coast. Forecast for Friday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the north and east contracting to the northeast. Isolated showers to follow in the south clearing from the west later.
