AMARILLO - Feb 8/10 - SNS -- Market conditions for cattle, hogs and

lambs in the major markets in the U.S. midwest are summarized in the latest daily report from the USDA.


Daily Livestock Summary

                                     CATTLE
Direct Trade:
   In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas,
Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota:  Thus far for
Monday, negotiated cash steer and heifer trade was at a standstill in the
Southern and Northern Plains with very limited traded on light demand in the
Iowa/Minnesota feeding region. Not enough sales in any regions to establish an
adequate market trend.  Steers: Live Basis: (all grades 63 head) 84.00.  Dressed
Basis; (all grades 35 head) 137.00.  Heifers: Live Basis: (all grades 84 head)
84.25.  Dressed Basis; (all grades 55 head) 136.00-137.00, weighted average
136.64.

 Auction markets: Not tested.

Calves steady.  Demand good.  Snow falling once again in the state, however,
this one not as strong as previous two storms.

500 lbs 111.00-113.00; 500-600 lbs 103.50-113.00; 600-700 lbs 96.50-102.25; 700-
800 lbs 94.75-99.75; 800-900 lbs 94.50-97.50; 900-950 lbs 91.25-93.50.  Medium
and Large 1-2: pkg 582 lbs 106.00; 600-700 lbs 99.50-102.25; 700-800 lbs 96.75-

Direct Trade:
   The direct hog trade prices are based on 185 lbs hog carcass with 0.9-1.1
inch back fat and 6 inch square loin/2.0 inch depth plant delivered.  National
direct trade barrows and gilts 1.04 higher at 57.00-67.00, weighted average
price 64.37.  Iowa-Minnesota .72 higher at 60.00-67.00, weighted average price
64.46.  Western Cornbelt .82 higher at 60.00-67.00, weighted average price 64.90
and Eastern Cornbelt 1.78 higher at 57.00-66.95, weighted average price 63.56.

   Live Basis (240-280 lbs): National direct trade barrows and gilts 1.81 lower
at 44.74-53.00, weighted average 50.43.  Iowa-Minnesota .14 higher at 44.74-
53.00, weighted average 51.71.  Western Cornbelt .16 lower at 44.74-53.00,
weighted average 51.29.  Eastern Cornbelt 4.09 lower at 45.85-51.00, weighted
average 48.86.
