TEXAS PECAN REPORT (via Austin, Texas)

PECANS PRICES PAID TO GROWERS

TEXAS (North, Central, South, Eastern Areas)

Deliveries by growers to delivery points of improved varieties were
very light and light for natives. Demand was very good for good quality
pecans as well as for natives. Prices paid to growers were higher for
natives. Harvesting has slowed for the season as the quantity and quality of
pecans are beginning to diminish. Trade sources report the recent rainfalls
have caused quality deterioration in the form of early sprouting, embryo rot,
and shell splitting. The weather forecast for the end of the week calls for
cold and wet conditions, with cold and dry conditions the early part of next
week.

Buying interest displayed by end users was moderate for in-shell, gift
pack use, and light to moderate for commercial sheller use as shellers
are beginning to slow down for the season. Trading was very light for in-
shell and gift pack uses.

Purchases of Improved varieties displaying good quality, nut count and high
meat yield suitable for in-shell and gift pack purposes were insufficient to
establish a market. Purchases of native pecans displaying good quality, nut
count, and high meat yield were $2.70-2.95 per point in shell.

Prices paid to growers at Texas delivery points or f.o.b. the orchard
from noon Thursday, January 7, 2010 to noon Thursday, January 14, 2010
cents per pound in-shell in lots less than 20,000 pounds, mostly small
lots of 5,000-10,000 pounds.

Natives (deliveries light) machine picked lots of good quality 105-118, yard
tree lots of fair quality 70.

Improved varieties deliveries and purchases insufficient to establish a
market.

THE NEXT TEXAS REPORT WILL BE ISSUED ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 21, 2010.
