Provided by: Fruit and Vegetable Market News Federal-State Market News Service, USDA. Phone: (229) 228-1208 Fax: (229) 225-1516 BO_FV140 LOUISIANA PECAN REPORT (via Thomasville, Georgia) Deliveries by growers were very light, while interest and demand is good. Prices increased slightly. Accumulation buying points reported few offerings. Interest has been strong for offerings of good quality nuts, and moderate for lesser quality. Any offerings delivered at the door with indications of embryo rot, sprouting, mold and excessive moisture are being turned away. Rain and very cold temperatures have kept growers out of the orchards this last week curtailing the remaining harvest. Demand is good with buying interest switching from the gift pack sector and export business to the domestic side looking for lots with fairly good quality and appropriate unit count. Mail order business remains strong while retail sales have slowed down after the holidays. Interest from China is still fairly strong. Prices paid to growers (from noon Tuesday, January 5, 2010 through late afternoon Tuesday, January 7, 2010) at buyers delivery point or f.o.b. the orchard including direct sales to end users, cents per pound in-shell of generally good quality in lots of 20,000 pounds or less unless otherwise stated. All are machine harvested, unless otherwise stated such as yard tree lots. Lots of Improved varieties (mostly blends) were insufficient in number to establish market prices. Natives 38-40% meat yield 95-100 ($2.50 per point), yard tree lots of generally good to fair quality 70 occasional higher poor quality low as 50-60 Lots over 20,000 pounds Natives 41-42% meat yield 116-122 ($2.90-3.00 per point) 38-40% meat yield 95-100 ($2.50 per point) THE NEXT LOUISIANA REPORT WILL BE ISSUED ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 14, 2010 --- STAT News Service
