Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 20/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Tuesday 24 November 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time

telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A low pressure system is expected to approach the northwest of Victoria later
Saturday then pass over the State early Sunday to reach the southern Tasman Sea
by Sunday afternoon. A high pressure ridge will extend over Victoria later
Sunday associated with a high that will move over the Bight on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers tending to rain areas from the northwest. The chance of local
thunderstorms, mainly in the north. Moderate to heavy falls possible tonight,
mainly in the north and about the dividing ranges. Mild and mostly cloudy with
light to moderate variable winds and coastal seabreezes.
Forest Fire Danger: Mainly moderate
Grassland Fire Danger: Moderate
Forecast for Sunday
Rain areas with locally heavy falls, contracting to southern and mountain
districts by the afternoon then easing to isolated showers later in the day. A
generally mild day with moderate west to southwesterly winds extending
throughout during the morning, fresh to locally strong at times near the coast.
Forecast for Monday
Partly cloudy with isolated showers on and south of the ranges. Fine in the
north. Mild with moderate west to southwest winds, fresh to strong near the
coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
Fine. A mild to warm and mostly sunny day with light to moderate southwest to
southerly winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Saturday.
