Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Nov 15/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Monday and Tuesday Afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms developing inland southeast of about Winton today and extending to southeast of about Hughenden on Tuesday. Mostly fine near the coast today with a better chance of late showers or storms south of about Bundaberg on Tuesday. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms also about the northwest, with isolated showers over the tropics. High cloud increasing over the southwest with possible local thunder though little or no rain. Hot to very hot NE to NW winds over southern Queensland. A slightly cooler S to SE change moving over the far southern coast late Tuesday. Moderate SE to NE winds over the tropics. A high to very high fire danger over central and southeast parts. EXTENDED OUTLOOK High cloud continuing over the southwest for the next few days with possible thunder though little or no rain. Hot conditions will continue over much of southern Queensland into the weekend as a high in the Tasman Sea continues to direct N to NW'ly winds over the area. On Wednesday, the SE'ly change will reach the southern end of Fraser Island and stall. A slightly cooler day over the southeast coast due to the SE to NE winds but becoming hot again on Thursday. A surface trough still lies over the southeast interior with unstable conditions continuing and afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms over central and southeast parts. On Thursday, the trough weakens with storms contracting to inland parts southeast of about Longreach. Fine conditions expected near the southeast coast with isolated showers over the central and tropical coasts. On Friday, instability eases further over the southeast with just the chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms southeast of about Emerald, mostly about the southern border ranges. Isolated showers over the northeast tropical coast and Cape York Peninsula in the onshore flow. --- STAT News Service
