TEXAS PECAN REPORT

PECANS PRICES PAID TO GROWERS

TEXAS (North, Central, South, Eastern Areas)

Deliveries by growers to delivery points of improved varieties were fairly
light in South and Central Texas and light in North Texas. Demand was good
for good quality offerings suitable for gift pack and retail uses, moderate
for other offerings. Harvesting was fairly active as orchard floor conditions
have improved. Trade sources report the recent rainfalls have caused quality
deterioration in the form of early sprouting, embryo rot, and shell
splitting. Many growers in the West are waiting for the first freezing
temperatures of the season to allow for increased shuck split and nut drop as
well as lowering moisture levels to acceptable user levels. The weather
forecast for the balance of the week calls for warm and dry conditions.

Buying interest displayed was good for in-shell, gift pack use but moderate
for commercial sheller use as shellers continue to utilize inventories on
hand or make purchases from other production areas. Trading was moderate for
in-shell and gift pack uses.

Purchases of Improved varieties including Desirable, Pawnee, Wichita,
Choctaw, and Cheyenne displaying good quality, nut count and high meat yield
suitable for in-shell and gift pack purposes were $2.68-2.83 per point in-
shell.

Prices paid to growers at Texas delivery points or f.o.b. the orchard from
noon Tuesday, November 3, 2009 to noon Thursday, November 5, 2009 cents per
pound in-shell in lots less than 20,000 pounds, mostly small lots of 5,000-
10,000 pounds.

Desirables (deliveries light) 53% meat yield or better 150, 50% meat yield
125.

Cheyenne (deliveries light) 53% meat yield or better 150-160, 50% meat yield
120.

Choctaw (deliveries light) 56% meat yield and low unit count 150-160 mostly
150.

Pawnee (deliveries light) 54% meat yield 150-160, 50% meat yield 125.

Natives (deliveries light) yard tree lots of variable quality 40-50

Wichita deliveries and purchases insufficient to establish a market.

THE NEXT TEXAS REPORT WILL BE ISSUED ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2009.
