Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 30/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Wednesday 4 November 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between Mallacoota and 60nm east of
Gabo Island.
Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by
telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
High pressure systems are located over the Bight and the Tasman Sea while a
weak low pressure trough is over the west of the State. The trough will meander
through southern Victoria later Saturday and across the north on Sunday.
Meanwhile, a low pressure system will develop south of the Bight with an
associated cold front expected to move across western Victoria on Monday and
through the east by early Tuesday. Another high pressure system will then
develop over the Bight later on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms contracting slowly eastward during
the afternoon with local heavy falls possible in the east. Isolated showers to
follow near the coast. Generally warm to hot inland. Light to moderate
northeast to northwesterly wind shifting southwesterly in the west. Local
afternoon coastal seabreezes.
Forest Fire Danger: Very high in the northwest
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the north and east. Isolated
showers developing about the southwest. Mild in the south, hot inland with
light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds extending throughout.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly in the northeast at first, and
developing later from the west. Warm to hot with moderate to fresh northeast to
northwest winds, strengthening in the west ahead of a cooler gusty southwest
change reaching western areas in the afternoon and central areas towards
evening.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers across the State, clearing from the north during the day. Cool
with fresh and gusty south to southwest winds, strong at first in the south and
extending through the east during the morning.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Saturday.
