Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 29/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Monday 2 November 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time

telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A high pressure system is moving slowly over the Tasman Sea. A weak low
pressure trough will enter southwestern Victoria later on Friday before
meandering through southern Victoria on Saturday. A low pressure system looks
likely to develop south of the Bight on Sunday, with an associated cold front
expected to move through western and central areas of Victoria on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Early fogs in Gippsland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms, becoming more
widespread during the afternoon and evening. A warm to hot and humid day with
light to moderate northeast to northwesterly wind, locally fresh in the south
this morning. Winds tending south to southwesterly in the southwest this
afternoon.
Forest Fire Danger: High in the northwest.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers and afternoon thunderstorms in central and eastern districts
contracting to the eastern ranges during the afternoon. Generally warm to hot
inland with light to moderate northeast to northwesterly wind, but conditions
tempered about the coast by seabreezes.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the north and east. Isolated
showers developing about the southwest. Mild in the south, hot inland with
light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the north and east, ahead of a
cooler west to southwesterly change crossing the State during the day. Isolated
showers following the change, mainly in the south.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Friday.
