Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 28/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Sunday 1 November 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between Cape Otway and 60nm east of
Gabo Island.
Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by
telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A high pressure system near southern Tasmania will move over the Tasman Sea on
Thursday and then become slow-moving. A weak low pressure trough will approach
southwestern Victoria later on Friday before meandering through southern
Victoria on Saturday. A low pressure system looks likely to develop south of
the Bight on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing, mainly about the central and
eastern ranges. Becoming warm and humid with light to moderate northeasterly
winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.
Forest Fire Danger: Locally very high in northwest.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers becoming more widespread over the eastern ranges during the
afternoon. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms. A warm and humid day, but hot in
the northwest. Light to moderate northeast to northwesterly wind tending south
to southwesterly in the southwest.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers in central and eastern districts contracting to the eastern
ranges during the afternoon. The chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms in
the east. Generally warm to hot inland with light to moderate northeast to
northwesterly wind, but conditions tempered about the coast by seabreezes.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the northeast. Isolated showers
developing about the southwest. Mild in the south, hot inland with light to
moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Thursday.
