Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 19/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Friday 23 October 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time
MINOR FLOOD WARNING FOR THE LATROBE RIVER.
Fire weather warning for Tuesday for the Mallee forecast district.
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Wilsons
Promontory.
Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by
telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A high pressure system is drifting eastwards over the Tasman Sea as the next
cold front moves towards Victoria. The front should be relatively weak and will
enter the State from the southwest this morning, reaching central areas in the
evening and extending through the far northeast on Wednesday. A new high
pressure system will ridge across southern Victoria later Wednesday and on
Thursday, while cold fronts will pass to the south Thursday night and on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine apart from isolated showers developing in the far southwest and south
during the afternoon and evening. A warm day with freshening north to northwest
winds ahead of a cooler southwest to southerly change developing in the far
southwest around noon and extending through the northwest and central areas
towards evening.
Forest Fire Danger: Severe in the Mallee (50-74)
Forecast for Wednesday
Mostly fine. Isolated showers in the south contracting to the east. Warm in the
north but cool to mild in the south. Moderate to fresh south to southwesterly
winds.
Forecast for Thursday
Early morning fog patches in the south. Isolated showers clearing from the far
east during the morning then a fine and mainly sunny day throughout. Warm in
the north but cool to mild in the south. Light winds and afternoon coastal
seabreezes.
Forecast for Friday
Early morning fog patches in the south. Fine and partly cloudy throughout with
just the chance of an afternoon shower over the southwest. Mild to warm with
light winds and afternoon coastal sea breezes.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Tuesday.
