Mexican Bean Crop ShrinksWASHINGTON - Oct 7/09 - SNS -- Dry edible bean production in Mexico has been several affected by drought this year and will fall sharply from last season, according to the U.S. agricultural attache for the country. Crops are expected to be down 23% at 900,000 metric tons (MT) in 2009-10 on account of drought in Durango and Zacatecas. "Even though the impact of the drought was less than initially anticipated," the U.S. agricultural attache said, "sources estimate a reduction in production of between 30% to 40%."
