Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 25/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
No warnings.
STATE FORECAST
for Wednesday
Rain areas and thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers
along the east coast. Mostly fine elsewhere with only isolated showers and
storms in a band lying from the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria through the
central and southern interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast.
Light to moderate SE to NE winds inland.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The surface trough over the interior will drift westwards over the next few days
and then remain over the west of the state into the weekend. A band of afternoon
and night showers and thunderstorms will continue to the near east of the trough
with the main activity over the southern half of the state. This activity will
increase on Thursday and extend eastwards over southern Qld as an upper trough
sweeps across south-eastern Australia and moves off the coast on Saturday. West
of the trough fine conditions will continue.
The ridge of high pressure along the east coast will continue into the weekend.
This ridge will maintain moderate to fresh SE winds along most of the east coast
and these winds will direct further showers into east coast districts. These
showers will become more scattered about the far southern coast on Friday as the
effects of the eastward moving upper trough are felt. A weak disturbance moving
westwards across the north-west Coral Sea will cause rain areas and
thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula for the next few days. This
activity will decrease to just a few showers and storms on Friday as the
disturbance moves on and weakens.
