Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Mar 24/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday Showers and thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula increasing to rain and storms overnight. Isolated showers along the east coast with moderate to fresh SE winds. Isolated showers and storms in a band from the south-east Gulf of carpentaria to the south-east inland contracting westwards on Wednesday. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The surface trough over the interior will drift westwards over the next few days and then remain over the west of the state into the weekend. A band of afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms will continue to the near east of the trough with the main activity over the southern half of the state. This activity will increase on Thursday and extend eastwards over southern Qld as an upper trough sweeps across southern Australia and moves off the coast on Saturday. West of the trough fine conditions will continue. The ridge of high pressure along the east coast will continue into the weekend. This ridge will maintain moderate to fresh Se winds along most of the east coast and these winds will direct further showers into east coast districts. These showers will become more scattered about the far southern coast on Friday as the effects of the eastward moving upper trough are felt. A weak disturbance moving west across the north-west Coral Sea will cause rain areas and thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula for the next few days. This activity will decrease to just a few showers and storms on Friday as the disturbance moves on and weakens. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
