August Egg Output Rises 1 Percent
WASHINGTON - Sep 22/09 - SNS -- U.S, shows today's USDA statistics.
egg totalled 7.59 billion during August 2009, up 1% from last year.
Production included 6.51 billion table eggs, and 1.08 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.00 billion were broiler-type and 72 million were egg-type.
The total number of layers during August 2009 averaged 332 million, down 1% from last year.
August egg production per 100 layers was 2,284 eggs, up 1% from August 2008. All layers in the U.S. on September 1, 2009 totalled 333 million, down 1% from last year.
