Saskatchewan Yields Hold UpVANCOUVER - Sep 4/09 - SNS -- Crop yields appear to be holding up in Saskatchewan as this year's harvest pushes past the mid-point for pulses and makes good progress for other specialty crops grown in Saskatchewan. In its latest crop progress report, Saskatchewan Agriculture said 9% of all crops had been combined as the week got underway, down from the recent five-year average of 22% in the bin by the end of August. The past week was good maturing and harvesting weather allowing farmers to get winter cereals, peas and lentils in the bin. Roughly 45% of the winter wheat, 63% of the fall rye, 31% of the lentils and 39% of the peas have been harvested. Cropland topsoil moisture has declined in the province and is rated as one% surplus, 84% adequate, 12% short and three% very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture conditions are rated as 72% adequate, 23% short and five% very short. Subscribers can read the full text of the article by Clicking here
