AgCanada Sees Modest Growth in Chickpea StocksVANCOUVER - Aug 29/09 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian chickpeas Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg reports this year's seeded area totalled 175,000 acres. It forecasts production for 2009 at 128,000 MT, versus 80,000 lst season. Agriculture Canada pegs exports for 2008-09 at 50,000 MT and is forecasting they will total 55,000 this season. Domestic use was estimated at 71,000 MT for both 2008-09 and this season. Season ending stocks estimated at 55,000 MT for 2008-09, and forecast at 65,000 MT for this season. Agriculture Canada believes grower bids averaged $560 for 2008-09 for all classes of chickpeas. It expects them to range between $530 and $560 MT in 2009-10.
