Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 28/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters between Double
Island Point and Point Danger.
2. A fire weather warning has been issued for the Maranoa and Warrego district,
and for the Darling Downs and the Granite Belts district.
STATE FORECAST
for Saturday
High cloud increasing over the southwest parts of the state with patchy light
rain and isolated thunderstorms. Isolated showers about the northern east coast.
Moderate SE to E winds over the far northern tropics. Light to moderate NE to NW
winds elsewhere, becoming fresh and gusty in the south with very high to extreme
fire dangers. Very warm to hot in southern and central areas.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
On Sunday, a trough will move across the southern parts of the state, extending
from Mount Isa to Rockhampton in the evening. Cloud band with patchy rain areas
across the southern interior, extending to the SE corner in the afternoon and
evening. There is a chance of isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms
developing over Wide Bay, Capricornia and eastern Central Highlands and
Coalfields districts ahead of the trough. Strong NW winds over the south coast
easing during the morning, ahead of cooler S/SW winds extending across southern
Queensland behind the trough and also under the cloud band.
On Monday, the cloud and rain band will extend across the central parts to the
SE corner. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms will develop over the
Capricornia, Central Highlands and Central Coast districts, ahead of patchy rain
areas at night. The rain band will clear from the southwest parts early on
Monday and then from remainder of southern and SE Queensland during the
afternoon and evening. Isolated showers continuing about the Cape York
Peninsula.
By Tuesday, the upper trough causing the cloud and patchy rain over the state
will move into the Coral Sea with only isolated showers remaining along the east
coast, and extending inland from the Central Coast.
