Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Aug 24/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 UPDATED WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday Fine almost throughout. The chance of isolated showers over far northern and eastern Cape York Peninsula. Cloud increasing over Northern Goldfields, Upper Flinders, Channel Country and over the Central West districts, with little or no rain. Some morning fog areas in coastal districts between about Cairns and the Sunshine Coast. Continuing very warm over most of the state, tend mild in SW parts. Generally light to moderate SE to SW winds. Very warm NW winds over southern districts, easing. High to very high fire dangers most areas. EXTENDED OUTLOOK On Thursday the mild SW to SE winds over southern parts weaken as a high pressure moves into the Pacific and the NE winds over northern and central Queensland start to push further south. Also pressure falls over central Australia will assist in this process. Maximum temperatures over the interior will again be well above average. Middle level cloud; currently developing over Northern Goldfields, Upper Flinders, Central West, Maranoa, Warrego and parts of the Channel Country, persists and tends drift eastwards. Little or no rain is expected with this cloud band owing to dry low layers of the atmosphere. Onshore SE trade winds along the Northern Tropical Coast may produce some very isolated showers. On Friday the cloud band over parts of the interior moves eastwards reaching SE coast districts during the afternoon. There maybe some light patchy rain associated with this cloud band. Some slightly unstable air from a weak middle level trough system passing to the south may produce some isolated showers and thunderstorms over SE districts. NW winds return to western and central Queensland and maximum temperatures will again be over 10 degrees above average. During the weekend expect very warm NW/NE winds over most of Queensland ahead of a SW change expected to enter the Channel Country late Saturday. On Sunday this SW/S change is expected to reach SE districts in the afternoon and lie from about the Sunshine coast to Emerald to Mt Isa by Sunday evening. In the wake of this change more mild temperature can be expected. Ahead of the change temperature expected to be between 7 and 10 degrees above average. A band of middle level cloud stretching from the Peninsula through northern half of Maranoa and Warrego and into the Wide Bay and Burnett will produce little or no --- STAT News Service
