Australia -- Victoria Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Aug 18/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. for the period until midnight EST Saturday 22 August 2009. Warning Summary at issue time Frost warning for the Northeast forecast district. Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Wilsons Promontory. Strong wind warning is current for Port Phillip. Strong wind warning is current for Western Port. Weather Situation A cold front will approach western Victoria late today, but will weaken and slip southwards during Thursday. A stronger cold front will develop over the Bight during Thursday before sweeping across Victoria during Friday. A weak high pressure system will move over New South Wales on Saturday while another cold front will slip to the south of Victoria later. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Early frost and fog in the north and east. Cloud increasing from the northwest with isolated showers developing over the far northwest late morning then extending eastwards. Patchy rain in the far southwest tonight. The chance of a late thunderstorm in the west. Cool to mild with northerly winds, strengthening from the west. Forecast for Thursday Patchy rain contracting to the northeast with isolated showers to follow in most areas but becoming fine over the northwest. Showers increasing in the southwest later. Cool to mild with chiefly moderate to fresh northwesterly winds. Forecast for Friday Rain areas contracting eastwards with scattered showers to follow, mainly in southern and mountain areas. Strong and gusty north to northwesterly wind shifting cooler westerly during the day. Forecast for Saturday Isolated showers in the southwest. Early showers over the northeast ranges, otherwise fine. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds strengthening in the west later.
