Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Aug 13/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Thursday night and Friday Some high cloud with little or no rain and local thunder over southern inland border districts clearing the far southern coast early Friday. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers about far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait and some morning fog patches about east coast districts between Cooktown and Bundaberg. High to very high fire dangers about the southern central and south-east inland areas. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the far northern tropics. Light to moderate NE to NW winds elsewhere before a light to moderate SW to SE wind change over the south-west and south-east interior spreading across the south-east coast tonight and Friday morning. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The trough system over the south-east of the state will decay about the Central Coast area of the state during Saturday morning as the high pressure cell moves eastwards across the southern Coral Sea. Winds along the southern and central coast will ease during Saturday morning and then shift to the NE along the southern coast in the afternoon. A new upper trough will move into central Australia on Saturday and then move across south-eastern Australia on Sunday before clearing the coast on Monday morning. This trough system will generate a cloud and weak rain band with storms which will move across the southern border areas of Queensland on Sunday and clear the far southern coast as well on Monday morning. A new surface front will move into the state on Sunday and then across the south-east corner of the state Monday afternoon. This front may trigger isolated showers and storms on Monday afternoon about the south-east corner of the state. As this front moves eastwards warm and gusty N to NW winds will develop and raise fire danger ratings to at least the very high level. Over the far north of the state the moderate to fresh SE trade flow will persist and direct isolated showers onto far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Daytime temperatures will remain above average well into next week. Night time temperatures will drop below average over the south-east of the state on the weekend. However, at other times and elsewhere throughout the state temperatures will be above average. Some morning frosts will occur on the weekend about the Darling Downs area while morning fogs will occur in most southern and central coastal districts of the state into next week. --- STAT News Service
