Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Mar 18/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for Tuesday night and Wednesday Showers and isolated thunderstorms on northern Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the inland in a band from the north-west to the southern inland. A few showers along most of the east coast with moderate to fresh SE winds gradually easing during Wednesday. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate E/NE winds inland. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The ridge and associated SE winds along the east coast will weaken even further from Thursday onwards as the high near New Zealand continues to move eastwards. As the winds continue to ease the onshore showers will contract northwards with the last of them clearing the far north tropical coast Friday morning. The upstream front will move into the state during Wednesday and merge with the inland trough. A few showers and storms will develop near this combined frontal system. This front will then move eastwards and extend from the far north-west to the south-east corner on Friday. At the same time an upper trough will amplify across south-eastern Australia and this will enhance the shower and storm activity over the south-east corner of the state. In fact, on Friday this enhancement will lead to the development of some severe storms in this area. Showers and storms will continue in a band from the far north-west to the south-east inland on Saturday near the inland section of the front. In the wake of the front drier and cooler S'ly air will spread across the west of the state circulating about a large high which will move slowly eastwards across the southern Great Australian Bight. During this period the monsoon trough will continue to hover about Torres Strait and produce some showers and storms. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
