Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 7/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
A strong wind warning Point Danger to St Lawrence.
STATE FORECAST
for Saturday
Isolated early showers about the north tropical coast. Isolated showers about
northern Cape York Peninsula and also developing about Fraser Island. Early fog
patches about east coast districts, with early frost about the Granite Belt.
Moderate S to SE winds extending throughout much of the state, tending fresh at
times near the coast and also through the southern interior during the morning.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
On Sunday the next continental high will move over northern New South Wales and
extend a ridge into Queensland, easing winds over southern Queensland. Dry
conditions will continue throughout the interior, with a cold start to the day
and early frost areas expected about the southern and southeast inland. A moist,
onshore flow will maintain showers about the Fraser and central coasts during
the morning, with showers also developing about the north tropical coast later
in the day.
On Monday, the combination of dry, light winds and clear skies will once again
result in a cold start to the day and early frosts over the southeastern
interior. Early fogs are also expected about east coast districts. Remaining
fine through the interior. Isolated showers about the north tropical coast will
become more widespread during the morning due to a mid-level trough in the area.
Isolated early showers are also expected over the central and Fraser coast. The
high that was over northern NSW pushes offshore and extends a ridge over the
east coast, while a low pressure system deepens over western Victoria. The
combination of these features results in a warm NE to NW flow through the
interior of Queensland.
On Tuesday, the low pressure system remains over western Victoria due to a large
high pressure system over New Zealand blocking its movement. The low will extend
a mid-level trough into the southern interior of Queensland, with a ridge
remaining over the east coast. NE to NW winds will once again extend over most
of the state, with daytime temperatures well above average. Early frost becomes
confined to the Granite Belt, while mornings fogs continue about east coast
districts. Unstable conditions due to the mid-level trough may produce isolated
afternoon showers about higher ground of the southeast interior. Isolated
