A few showers along the east coast and the south-east inland. Fine elsewhere. Fresh SE winds along the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the southern Tasman Sea is expected to strengthen as it moves slowly to the New Zealand area by midweek. The high will direct moderate to fresh SE winds and a few showers along the Queensland east coast. Onshore winds should begin to ease from the south on Wednesday with showers contracting to the far north tropical east coast late in the week. The trough over inland Queensland will drift westwards until midweek. This trough will produce a band of afternoon and evening cloud on its eastern side, but no significant showers are likely to result except about the north-west of the state. The inland trough will merge with a front which will move into western Queensland on Wednesday. The merged system will move slowly eastwards across the interior of the state preceded by afternoon and evening showers or thunderstorms. This system will move through southern coastal areas on Friday. The weakening monsoon trough will retreat north to Torres Strait by Wednesday, leaving only a few showers and thunderstorms over far northern Cape York Peninsula. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
