Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Mar 16/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for Monday Showers and isolated thunderstorms on northern Cape York Peninsula. A few showers along the east coast extending inland to the Carnarvons and eastern Darling Downs. Fine over the interior. Freshening SE winds along the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the southern Tasman Sea is expected to strengthen as it moves slowly to the New Zealand area by midweek. The high will direct moderate to fresh SE winds and a few showers along the Queensland east coast on Monday and Tuesday. Onshore winds should begin to ease from the south on Wednesday with showers contracting to the tropical east coast late in the week. The trough over inland Queensland will drift west until midweek. This trough will produce a band of afternoon and evening cloud on its eastern side, but no significant showers are likely to result. The inland trough will merge with a new trough advancing into western Queensland on Wednesday. The merged trough will move slowly east across the interior of the state later in the week, preceded by isolated afternoon and evening showers or thunderstorms. The weakening monsoon trough will retreat north to Torres Strait by Wednesday, leaving only showers and thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
