Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 31/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EST Tuesday 4 August 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time
Gale warning for Victorian waters between Port Campbell and 60nm east of Gabo
Island.
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Port
Campbell.
Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by
telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A cold front embedded in a westerly airflow will pass through Bass Strait today
then a stronger cold front will cross Victoria Sunday night. Yet another front
will move through Bass Strait on Tuesday. A high pressure system will then move
across northern Victoria on Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Local morning fog in the north. Isolated showers and drizzle patches affecting
most districts, but fine over East Gippsland. Showers falling as snow above
1500 metres. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds,
strong along parts of the coast.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers over southern and mountain areas becoming more widespread over
the southwest late in the day. Light snowfalls above 1600 metres. Cool to mild
with northwesterly winds strengthening over southern and mountain areas before
turning westerly from the west overnight.
Forecast for Monday
Showers with local hail, becoming isolated from the west during the day and
clearing from the northwest. Alpine snowfalls. Cool with generally fresh west
to southwesterly winds easing in the north.
Forecast for Tuesday
Early morning frosts inland. Showers with local hail, more widespread in the
south and about the ranges. Alpine snowfalls. Fresh northwesterly winds
shifting westerly.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Saturday.
