Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Mar 15/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil warnings. STATE FORECAST for Sunday night and Monday Isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms over the tropics north of about Kowanyama to Cardwell. Very isolated showers about exposed parts of the east coast, more frequent north of about Cardwell. A few showers and thunderstorms developing in southeast districts during the afternoon and overnight. Fine over the interior, apart from some afternoon cloud forming about the inland trough which is expected to retreat westward into the Northern Territory on Monday. Mostly light to moderate SE to NE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK On Tuesday the high which is currently moving into the Tasman Sea is forecast to lie over New Zealand with a central pressure of about 1033 hPa. This high will direct moderate to fresh SE trade winds along the east coast, tending NE west of the ranges ahead of a trough of low pressure over central Australia. On Wednesday the inland trough over central Australia is expected to move back eastwards into western Queensland with some cloud and possible isolated afternoon showers. As this trough approaches the high over New Zealand starts to weaken its influence along the east coast with the SE trade winds and any showers easing. The monsoon trough, which is already weakening is expected to lie through Torres Strait by Wednesday and have little influence other than initiating some scattered showers and thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula. During Thursday the inland trough is expected to move further eastwards lying from the Darling Downs and Granite Belt through the central interior to the Gulf Country. Expect some cloud with possible isolated showers and thunderstorms forming about this trough. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
