Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Mar 14/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Thomson River. STATE FORECAST for Saturday night and Sunday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over The Cape York and northern Gulf country, fine in the far north. Isolated showers about the east coast with SE winds. By Sunday additional cold air aloft over SE QLD will generate showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Little change over the remainder. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The monsoon trough is expected to move north over Cape York Peninsula with a contraction of the thunderstorms. SE stream showers to replace thunderstorms about the Tropical coast. Showers continuing about the east coast as SE winds freshen. This is in response to the increasing high pressure ridge about the east coast. The inland trough will drift west but produce no weather. Eventually by Wednesday a new trough approaches from the west merging with the QLD trough. The coastal ridge of higher pressure weakens with decreasing SE winds and showers. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
