Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 14/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Flood warnings are current for the Thomson River and Cooper Creek.
STATE FORECAST
for Saturday
Scattered showers over most parts of the northern tropics. Mostly fine otherwise
apart from showers or thunderstorms near the southern interior border. Moderate
to fresh W winds across Cape York Peninsula. Mostly light to moderate winds
tending moderate to fresh southeast along most of the east coast.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The monsoon trough is expected to move north over Cape York Peninsula over the
weekend with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms near it. The high in
the Bight will move into the Tasman Sea Sunday. Increasing southeast winds are
likely to bring isolated showers to the Queensland east coast during the next
few days. Most of inland Queensland can expect several days of fine weather. A
weak upper trough and some cold air aloft may cause isolated showers or
thunderstorms over the far southern interior today but more widespread activity
will develop over the southeast on Sunday as the system moves in and develops a
little. Severe tropical cyclone ERICA will continue to move southeast away from
New Caledonia. The cyclone poses no threat to Queensland apart from a general
increase in ocean swells along the southern coastline later in the weekend.
