Australia -- Victoria Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Jul 23/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. for the period until midnight EST Monday 27 July 2009. Warning Summary at issue time Severe frost warning for the Northern Country, North Central and Northeast forecast districts. Frost warning for the Wimmera, Mallee, Central, West and South Gippsland and Western forecast districts. Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Warrnambool. Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Bight will drift eastwards across northern Victoria overnight and will reach the Tasman Sea later Friday, allowing a series of fronts to move towards Victoria. The first front will weaken and slip south of Victoria on Saturday whilst a slightly stronger front will cross the State on Sunday. Another cold front will move through Bass Strait late Monday. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Isolated showers in southern and mountain areas clearing from the west tonight. Fine in the north. South to southwesterly wind easing. Forecast for Friday Morning fog and widespread frost, locally severe, then a mainly sunny day. Isolated showers developing over the far southwest at night. Generally light winds in the east, but northerly winds elsewhere, gradually freshening. Forecast for Saturday Morning frost in the east. Isolated showers over the far southwest coast but fine elsewhere. Mostly sunny in the north, but partly cloudy in the south and about the ranges. Moderate to fresh northerly winds. Forecast for Sunday Scattered showers, mainly affecting southern and mountain districts and falling as snow over Alpine areas. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds shifting southwesterly. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers, tending scattered in the south and about the eastern ranges and falling as snow over the Alps. Moderate to fresh westerly winds.
