U.S. Broiler Hatchery Down on YearWASHINGTON - Jul 22/09 - SNS -- Broiler hatchery activity in the United States Broiler was down from last year during the week ending July 18, 2009, but managed a mixed performance on the week, according to this week's USDA statistics. Commercial hatcheries in the 19-State weekly program set 203.0 million eggs in incubators during the week. This was down 3.8% from the eggs set the same week last year. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84%. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
