Desi Chickpea Markets ImproveVANCOUVER - Jul 19/09 - SNS -- International chickpea markets finished the week on a firmer note against improving demand for desi type chickpeas from the Indian subcontinent. Australian exporters have enjoyed excellent demand from the region since the start of the 2008-09 marketing year, and are becoming convinced demand in the coming season will remain strong because of doubts with India's kharif or monsoon season crops. Seeding of all pulse crops grown in the monsoon season is down 5.8% from last year 3.838 million hectares as of July 17. Seeding is not complete.
