Myanmar's Pulse Exports Collapse in MayVANCOUVER - Jul 6/09 - SNS -- Pulse exports from Myanmar have slowed considerably during the second quarter of 2009, dragging calendar year to date shipments well below last year. Clearances during the first five months of 2009 are down 36.6% from last year, with shipments in May and April at their lowest levels since 2005. Even so, port clearances since January are up from those reported between 2005 and 2007. The U.S, agricultural attache for the country notes that exports in May are down 65% from the same month last year at 74,501 metric tons (MT) following decreased sales to India. Toor Whole (Pigeon pea) accounted for 45% of the total exports in May, followed by Matpe (33%) and mung beans (11%).
