Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 3/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Saturday and Sunday
Dry and cool over most of the state. Only possible isolated showers about far
northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Some early frost over
the south-east inland. Increasing high cloud over the south-west and spreading
across southern districts during Sunday. Generally moderate to occasionally
fresh SW to SE winds.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The high south of the Great Australian Bight will continue to move slowly
eastwards and will reach the Tasman Sea on Tuesday. A high cell will develop
over the south-east Coral Sea on Monday and direct SE to NE winds onto the
southern and central coast of Qld. These winds will produce a few light showers
near the exposed coast and island south from about the Whitsundays from late
Monday onwards. These winds will shift to the S to SE on Tuesday and freshen as
ridging from the main high strengthens and extends along the entire east coast
of Qld. Showers in this onshore S to SE airflow will then spread onto remaining
favoured areas of the east coast.
An upper trough system will move across southern areas of the state during the
early part of the week. Middle to high cloud associated with this system will
finally clear from the south-east of the state during Tuesday morning but not
before producing some very little at best about the southern interior on Monday.
As this trough moves into the south-east on Tuesday it will destabilize
conditions and will produce some afternoon showers and possible storms about the
south-east coast and adjacent inland. This activity will weakened on Wednesday
but return to the same area again on Thursday as a new upper trough moves across
the south-east of the state.
Isolated showers will continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula and through
Torres Strait well into the week.
Temperatures across the state will generally return to close to average by about
