Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Jul 3/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Strong wind warning for coastal waters between Double Island Point and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay. Strong wind warning for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters. STATE FORECAST for Friday night and Saturday Dry and cool over most of the state. Isolated showers about far NE tip of Cape York Peninsula. Patchy drizzle developing over the Granite Belt. Some early frost over SE parts, the southern Central Highlands and the Atherton Tablelands. Generally moderate to fresh SE to SW winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK On Sunday a 1027 hPa high located south of the Great Australian Bight will continue to direct dry SE winds over the interior of Queensland. An upper trough will amplify into central Australia producing high cloud over Queensland south of about Mt Isa to Clermont. Owing to dry air under this band of high cloud little or no rain will be associated with this upper trough. This high cloud will reduce daytime temperatures and produce slightly warmer night. However there will still be a risk of frost forming over the SE interior. During Monday the upper level trough enters western Queensland, contracting the high cloud to the south and SE. Again little or no rain associated with this cloud band. The high south of the Great Australian Bight weakens, which will allow winds along the east coast to ease and seabreezes develop. The upper trough will reduce pressure over eastern districts and we may see some very isolated showers develop about exposed parts of the east coast. By Tuesday, the upper level trough is on the east coast with cloud clearing to sea. Generally fin throughout Queensland apart from some very isolated showers --- STAT News Service
