Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Mar 12/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A Tropical Cyclone Advice is current for the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria coastline. Flood warnings are current for the Thomson River and Cooper Creek and for the Diamantina River. A gale and strong wind warning is current for Eastern Gulf of Carpentaria waters. STATE FORECAST for Thursday Widespread rain and thunderstorms over the northern tropics with some heavy falls. Cloudy over most eastern parts with scattered rain over the southeast easing Thursday. A few showers or thunderstorms over the central and southern interior. Fine in the west. Cyclonic winds around the southeastern Gulf easing overnight. Moderate southeast winds otherwise, fresh along the east coast. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Tropical cyclone CRAIG has now crossed the coast south of Kowanyama and is expected to gradually weaken over southern Cape York Peninsula. Widespread rain and thunderstorms with some heavy falls are expected across the northern tropics before easing Friday. The high in the Tasman Sea will weaken over the next 24 hours and be replaced by another high on the weekend. The upper trough will initially remain a feature but weaken Thursday and move off the south coast. The associated upper low will move up into the southern interior tonight producing some showers or thunderstorms but only a few showers tomorrow as it weakens to the east. The upper low will also maintain the mostly light rain areas over the southeast corner until Thursday. Another upper trough is likely to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far southwest on Friday with only isolated showers and thunderstorms over the central and southern interior on Saturday near the inland trough.
