A Tropical Cyclone Advice is current for the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria
coastline.
Flood warnings are current for the Thomson River and Cooper Creek and for the
Diamantina River.
A gale and strong wind warning is current for Eastern Gulf of Carpentaria

STATE FORECAST
for Thursday
Widespread rain and thunderstorms over the northern tropics with some heavy
falls. Cloudy over most eastern parts with scattered rain over the southeast
easing Thursday. A few showers or thunderstorms over the central and southern
interior. Fine in the west. Cyclonic winds around the southeastern Gulf easing
overnight. Moderate southeast winds otherwise, fresh along the east coast.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Tropical cyclone CRAIG has now crossed the coast south of Kowanyama and is
expected to gradually weaken over southern Cape York Peninsula. Widespread rain
and thunderstorms with some heavy falls are expected across the northern tropics
before easing Friday. The high in the Tasman Sea will weaken over the next 24
hours and be replaced by another high on the weekend. The upper trough will
initially remain a feature but weaken Thursday and move off the south coast. The
associated upper low will move up into the southern interior tonight producing
some showers or thunderstorms but only a few showers tomorrow as it weakens to
the east. The upper low will also maintain the mostly light rain areas over the
southeast corner until Thursday. Another upper trough is likely to bring
isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far southwest on Friday with only
isolated showers and thunderstorms over the central and southern interior on
Saturday near the inland trough. Tropical cyclone ERICA will continue to move in
a generally south-easterly direction over the eastern Coral Sea and pose no
threat to Queensland.
