Rice Inventories Down 9% on Year
WASHINGTON - Jun 30/09 - SNS -- Stocks of rought rice in all positions delined 9% from year easrlier levels to 48.4 million
hundredweight (cwt) as of June 1, 9% from last year, according to the USDA.
Stocks held on farms totaled 6.92 million cwt, and off-farm stocks totaled 41.4 million cwt. Long grain varieties accounted for 71% of the total rough rice, medium grain accounted for 26%, and short grain varieties accounted for 3%.
Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 5.72 million cwt, up 31% from a year ago. Milled rice stocks were compromised of 4.13 million cwt of whole kernel rice and 1.59 million cwt of second heads, screenings, and brewers rice.
