Durum Wheat Plantings Drop 16%WASHINGTON - Jun 30/09 - SNS -- Area seeded to Durum wheat is estimated at 2.56 million acres, down 6% from 2008 but up 19% from 2007, according to the USDA's preliminary seeded estimates for the year. Cool, wet conditions in Montana and North Dakota delayed the start of Durum wheat planting. Area harvested for grain is expected to total 2.45 million acres, 5% below 2008 but 16% higher than 2007.
