USDA Licenses 27 VarietiesWASHINGTON - Jun 29/09 - SNS -- The USDA issued certificates of protection to developers of 27 new varieties of seed-reproduced and tuber-propagated plants. They include barley, bean, pea, triticale, soybean, wheat, bentgrass, lettuce and zinnia. The certificates are being issued under the Plant Variety Protection Act. The certificates require that the varieties be new, distinct, uniform and stable. The owners will have the exclusive right to reproduce, sell, import and export their products in the United States for the duration of protection. The certificates are: - the Valor* variety of barley, developed by Pennsylvania Agricultural Experiment Station, University Park, Pa.; - the ND-307* variety of field bean, developed by NDSU Research Foundation, Fargo, N.D.; - the Bistro variety of pea, developed by Brotherton Seed Co. Inc., Moses Lake, Wash.; - the 888 variety of triticale, developed by Resource Seeds, Inc, Gilroy, Calif.; - the 93Y20, RJS18001, and RJS31001 varieties of soybean, developed by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., Johnston, Iowa; - the Volante and RSI 59 varieties of durum wheat, developed by Resource Seeds, Inc., Gilroy, Calif.; - the NH03614 CL* variety of common wheat, developed by Board of Regents, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Neb.; and - the Lariat, Blanca Royale and Blanca Fuerte varieties of common wheat, developed by Resource Seeds, Inc., Gilroy, Calif. - the Legendary variety of velvet bentgrass, developed by Lebanon Seaboard Corporation & Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Huntsville, Utah; - the Pacifica and Nani’s Best varieties of Orsetti Seed Company, Inc., Hollister, Calif; - the PS 06510126 variety of Seminis Vegetable Seeds, Inc., Oxnard, Calif; - the Magosa, Auburn, Windsor, Benito, Bixby, and Breen varieties of lettuce, developed by Enza Zaden Beheer B.V., Enkhuizen, The Netherlands; - the PAS553645 variety of zinnia, developed by Ball Horticultural Company, West Chicago, Ill.; and - the SAKZIN008, SAKZIN009, and SAKZIN010 varieties of zinnia, developed by Sakata Seed Corporation, Yokohama, Japan. * In the United States, seed of this variety shall be sold by variety name only as a class of certified seed, and shall conform to the number of generations specified by the owner of the rights (84 STAT. 1542, as amended, 7 U.S.C. 2321 ET SEQ).
