May Egg Output Rises SlightlyWASHINGTON - Jun 22/09 - SNS -- U.S, judging from the latest USDA sector report. egg came in at 7.60 billion within May 2009, up slightly from the previous year. Production included 6.51 billion table eggs, and 1.09 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.02 billion were broiler-type and 73 million were egg-type. The total number of layers during May 2009 averaged 337 million, down 1% from last year. May egg production per 100 layers was 2,256 eggs, up 1% from May 2008.
