Cane Output Pegged at 36 Million TonsWASHINGTON - Mar 11/03 - SNS -- Sugarcane production for sugar and seed for 2002 is estimated at 36.0 million tons, up slightly from the February forecast and 4% above last year's estimate, according to the latest USDA output estimates. Acres harvested and to be harvested for sugar and seed are estimated at 1.03 million for the 2002 crop year, slightly less than last year's harvested area. Yield is estimated at 35.1 tons per acre, 1.4 tons above 2001. In Florida, acres harvested and to be harvested for sugar and seed are down 1% from last year's record high acreage.
