Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Jun 19/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Friday night and Saturday Isolated showers over far northern Cape York Peninsula and along exposed parts of the east coast, more frequent south of Fraser Island overnight and Saturday. Isolated showers developing over the southeast inland during the afternoons. Fine elsewhere. Generally moderate SW to SE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the Tasman Sea will continue to drift slowly east and will reach the New Zealand area over the weekend. The ridge along the east coast will weaken as the high moves further away and a frontal system moves into central Australia and into western Queensland on Monday. The trough off the southern Queensland coast will drift ashore on Saturday and will enhance showers on the coast south from Fraser Island. This trough will generally weaken on Sunday. An upper trough will amplify into central Australia over the weekend and then move into western Queensland early next week. This trough is likely to generate a cloud and rain band which will move across southern inland Qld during Sunday and the early to middle part of next week. Light rainfall should be fairly widespread over southern inland Queensland with this system, and some more significant totals are possible about southeast Queensland. At the same time, shower activity along the tropical east coast is likely to taper off and --- STAT News Service
