Russian Sugar Imports Rise in JanuaryKIEV - Mar 5/03 - APK -- Russia's January raw sugar imports raised 62,000 metric tons (MT) from the same month a year ago up to 218,000 MT. January's total included 212,000 MT of Brazil origin raw sugar and 6,000 MT of Dominican Republic origin raw sugar. Average prices paid were U.S. $210 MT. White sugar imports in spite of high import taxes surpassed 21,000 MT. The average price was $315 MT. The main suppliers were Kyrgyzstan (31.9%), Moldova (26%), Belgium (21.3%), Poland (10.9%) and Kazakhstan (7.8%). White sugar imports were 4.8 times up from the same period a year ago. Only 90 MT of white sugar were exported to Mongolia at $688 MT. The export from Russia decreased 274 times from January 2002.
