Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jun 11/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EST Monday 15 June 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time
Severe frost warning for the Northern Country and Northeast forecast districts.
Frost warning for the Wimmera, Mallee, North Central and West and South
Gippsland forecast districts.
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Port
Campbell.
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between Point Hicks and 60nm east of
Gabo Island.
Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by
telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A low pressure system is located over the Tasman Sea and is moving slowly
eastwards. A high over New South Wales extends a ridge southwards over
Victoria. On Friday another low pressure system will develop over the Bight
before drifting slowly towards western Victoria on Saturday and Sunday. The low
should move to the Tasman Sea on Monday allowing a southwesterly airflow to
extend across the State.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Widespread morning frost near and north of the divide. Isolated showers in east
Gippsland. Generally light winds tending northerly in the west.
Forecast for Friday
Early inland frost, locally severe. Isolated showers in the southeast clearing.
Patchy rain developing about the western border at night. Cool to cold with
light to moderate northerly winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Patchy rain extending eastwards but mainly fine in East Gippsland. Snow about
the Alps. Early frost in the east. Cool with moderate to fresh north to
northwesterly winds.
Forecast for Sunday
Scattered showers in the north and about the ranges, falling as snow about the
Alps and becoming isolated in the south. Cool with winds generally moderate
northerly.
Forecast for Monday
Scattered showers near the coast, becoming isolated inland and falling as snow
about the Alps. Cool to cold with winds tending light to moderate southwesterly.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Friday.
