Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 8/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A strong wind warning is current for all Victorian coastal waters including Port
Phillip and Western Port.
Weather Pattern
A low pressure trough over far eastern Victoria will move slowly eastwards then
weaken on Monday. A high pressure system to the southwest of Victoria will also
move slowly eastwards, crossing Tasmania during Monday night to become centred
over the Tasman Sea on Tuesday. A weak cold front will approach Victoria during
Wednesday, reaching the southwest late in the day.

Sunday:    Scattered showers in southern and mountain districts, more widespread
in the east and tending to rain at times in Gippsland. Isolated thunderstorms in
the east. Fine on the northern plains. Cool to mild in the south. Mild to warm
in the north.  Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds, locally strong on
the coast.
Fire Danger: High to very high.
UV Index: 10 [very high] decreasing to 4 [moderate] under cloud. 
Monday:    Showers or rain in Gippsland. Drizzle and light showers over
remaining southern parts. Fine and mild to warm in the north. 
Tuesday:   Isolated showers in the east clearing. Morning fog and drizzle in the
south. Mild to warm.
Wednesday: Morning fog patches in the south. Isolated showers in the southwest
later. Generally warm.
Forecast for Melbourne
Sunday
Mostly cloudy with a few showers. Fresh southerly wind.

Local showers or drizzle mostly in the morning. Mostly cloudy with a fresh
southeasterly wind.    Min 14    Max 22

Mostly fine and mild.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Sunday:    Southerly wind of 15 to 20 knots, reaching 25 knots at times. Waves 1
to 1.5 metres. A strong wind warning is current.
Monday:    Southerly wind of 15 to 20 knots tending southeasterly and reaching
25 knots at times.
Tuesday:   Southeast to easterly wind of 10 to 15 knots and afternoon seabreezes
to about 15 knots.
Wednesday: Northeast to northerly wind of 10 to 15 knots. Afternoon seabreezes
to 15 knots.
Headline Melbourne: Few showers.
Headline Victoria:  Showers over south and ranges tending to rain in the east.
