Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 20/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time:
Severe Weather Warning for the Northern Rivers, Northern Tablelands and Mid
North Coast. Flood Watch for NSW coastal rivers from the Queensland Border to
the Nambucca. Flood Warning for the Tweed and Brunswick rivers. Storm Force
Warning for coastal waters north of Wooli, Gale Warning between Wooli and Seal
Rocks,  Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters between Seal Rocks and Port
Hacking. Ocean Gale Warning. Sheep Graziers warning for parts of the northeast
of the state.

Current Weather Situation and Future Developments:
A strong upper low will move across southern Queensland during the next few
days. As it moves eastward, this system will generate a series of surface lows
off the southern Queensland coast. Deep moist onshore winds will bring rain and
gale force winds to northeastern parts of the state, with heavy falls and
possible flooding about the far northern coast and ranges from today through
until the end of the week. Damaging surf conditions will also develop along
northern parts of the coast tomorrow. Showers over the remainder of the state,
will contract to the eastern half by Thursday afternoon and to the ranges and
coastward from Friday.
Forecast for Thursday
Rain and isolated thunderstorms in the northeast with heavy falls likely on the
coast and ranges north from about Kempsey. Showers over the remainder of the
coast and adjacent ranges, heavy at times on the coast. Isolated showers over
the eastern inland, clearing. Fine over the remainder. East to northeast winds,
strong to gale force on the northern half of the coast and ranges. Damaging surf
conditions developing along the northern coast.
Forecast for Friday
Rain in the northeast with heavy falls likely on the coast and ranges north from
about Kempsey. Scattered showers over the remainder of the coast and adjacent
ranges, heavy at times on the coast north of about Sydney. Fine conditions west
of the Divide. East to northeast winds, strong to gale force and with damaging
surf conditions along the northern coast.
Forecast for Saturday
Rain or showers along the coast and adjacent ranges, easing. Southeast to
northeast winds easing.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers along the coast and adjacent ranges, scattered in the north.
Southeast to northeast winds.
